Finding a Girlfriend in College: A Guide for the Average Freshman

By Jacob Gallup

College can be a pretty exciting time, which is why incoming freshmen look forward to it with a sense of anticipation. Sure, you may also be a little bit worried about how you'll survive, especially if it's the first time you've ever tried living away from home. However, your fears about having nobody to clean up after you or cook your meals should be overshadowed by the prospect of meeting new people and entering new relationships, especially with girls. Here some good advice on finding a girlfriend in college.

1. Go to class. This is pretty sound, if obvious, advice. Going to class will allow you to meet a lot of girls and interact with them in a relaxed environment. If you skip your classes and just vegetate in your dorm room, you are not going to be able to even see that many cute girls.

When in class, try to befriend the girls without seeming obnoxious or creepy. Act natural. Try to make a witty remark or two about the subject or the professor, but make sure that it is not offensive; some people actually enjoy the classes they enrol in. Take advantage of group projects or challenging assignments to get close to a girl you're attracted to.

2. Be part of a special-interest group. It could be a young artists' society, the math club or the chess team - what matters is that it lets you develop your interests and hone your skills while giving you the chance to meet girls who may like the same things you do.

Don't underestimate the power of shared efforts like organizing fundraisers or planning exhibits to bring people together and ignite some special feelings.

3. Attend school activities. Pep rallies and Foundation Day activities exist for a reason. Not only do they foster school spirit - they also allow students to have fun and form bonds with each other.

Don't be afraid to wear the school colors and participate wholeheartedly at the next barbecue, mixer, or parade. Women love men who are involved and know how to enjoy themselves at the same time.

4. Get a part-time job. Not everyone can be the star debater or hot quarterback. But even if you are an average freshman, you can impress the girls by being more grown-up and mature than your peers.

When you have a part-time job, girls will see you as someone who is responsible and glamorously engaged in the "real world". Try interning, doing volunteer work or even freelancing. Not only will you have extra income - you are bound to become more interesting to the ladies as well.

Finding a girlfriend in college is not an impossible feat for the average freshman. All it takes is the willingness to socialize and show a little worldly wisdom. It is definitely worth the effort, since a girlfriend can provide you with emotional support and security during your student years.
