What You Need To Know About Caskets

By Catherine Black

Everyone wants a proper funeral for their loved ones. As one values this lifetime preciously, so does one ought to for the afterlife. Of course, burying your family members with ornaments and riches won't apply in modern times as Egyptians and other ancient cultures did thousands of years ago. However, you could present your loved ones the special tribute they deserve by burying them in a decent casket.

Choosing from a variety of caskets may present itself as such a chore but it won't if it comes with the funeral arrangements. Most funeral homes offer their own caskets or through third-party vendors. Some funeral parlours also let clients to avail coffins from other casket makers. Should you choose to go with the funeral home's burial coffin, however, one thing that will make a big difference in the quality of the coffin would be the funeral home's reputation. The better the funeral home, the better services it provides.

Additionally, one should also look at the cost of coffins. Caskets would usually cost anywhere from $800 to $2,000, but hardwood, copper and bronze types are exceptions to the rule. Hardwood types like cottonwood, poplar, maple and ash sell for $1,000 and up. Regular wooden coffins made from oak, walnut, rose, pine and mahogany are quite cheap.

Stainless steel coffins are more affordable than its copper and bronze counterparts. Steel caskets can be bought for $800 to $900 at best, while copper and bronze ones would cost for double the price, even triple. One thing that both types have in common, however, is that the prices of both types of coffins are calculated based on their weight per square foot and thickness.

Keep in mind that how much you spend on a funeral casket does not essentially reflect your sentiments or tribute to the dead. What matters most are the funeral wake and how you pay your sincere tribute to the dead and the people he left.
