The Function Of Water Softeners

By Linda Ruiz

Water is a prime need of people in order to survive. Of course, without it, there will be no survival. That is why it is called the fountain of life. Speaking of this, before, the thing which is most regarded is the need. The conception about convenience and comfort is not much of an issue. It is basically only in the modern era that these things have been put into high esteem.

During the old days, as long as people can find water for their use, they do not harbor any more designs. Anyway, whether it tastes nice or feels refreshing, it can still afford them their need. But then, such is not the ideology nowadays already. That is why in order to answer to the higher expectations of he modern age, water softeners have been made.

Due to the standard of living nowadays, the old ways were already left to itself. Right now, there is already more than just the need of people. If you notice, there is a very high regard for convenience and comfort already. Well, you can say that this is because of the great shift in the cultural norms and values of people.

Speaking of which, you might be confused as to the classification of H2O into hard and soft when it cannot be held in the first place. The answer to this is basically that the categorization of hardness doe not lie on the physical features, but in its components. Basically, just feeling it will not help you identify whether it be hard or soft.

So to speak, you speak about hardness, it contains a big amount of minerals, calcium, and magnesium. Since the base of H2O is underground where rocks and soil are found, it is understandable that it contains such elements in abundance. Now, when it comes to measuring hardness, it is done per gallon, or in milligrams per liter.

Now, based from the definition of hardness, it is stated that the elements such as minerals, calcium, and magnesium are the reason. However, these elements are helpful. Why eliminate them. Now, actually, though these elements are helpful, if they are not reduced into is desirable amount, it can cause some negative effects.

One of these negative effects is that calcium and magnesium which are dissolved can build up in the insides of kettles, coffee makers, heaters, industrial machines, and pipes. With that, it can reduce the flow through the pipes which will eventually make them clogged. Aside from that, it will be a poor conductor of heat as well.

Not only that, hard H2O will also reduce the soaps ability to lather whether in the shower, in the sink, in the dishwasher, or in the washing machine. Given that, it reacts with soap in such a way that produces a sticky solvent. But then do not worry so much about it since you can solve this issue in as many ways as possible.

Speaking of which, you can have it filtered by distillation or reverse osmosis. Other than that, you can also add some packaged chemical softeners into it such as powdered borax or washing soda perhaps. Filtration can actually improve the taste of the water while descaling offers an alternative.
