PSI Electrical Exam And Its Role In Getting You Hired

By Ida Dorsey

Work is not only about skills. It requires the right set of attitude. If you are an aspiring electrician, this becomes even more important especially that you are dealing with a lot of technicalities at work. Unless you show that you both have the necessary skills and characteristics to be a part of the company that you are vying for, you will find it hard to get a slot.

It is not bad to focus on your technical skills. After all, this will matter a lot. But things like the PSI electrical exam also deserves your attention. This kind of exam is geared to gauging your personality as a worker. Meaning, the skill that you have should be justified by your character before you get the big shot.

First, there is this area about your understanding in safety measures. Anyone who wants to be an electrician should know the standard operating procedures in safety. This includes that proper gears when work up to the procedures when handling emergency cases. The job is risky after all. Safety should be among the priority.

Second is the commitment. Once you start working, you should have the commitment to finish a task that is assigned to you. Failure to do so will result in delayed projects that can jeopardize even the schedules of other employers. And you know that delays in businesses can cost a company some serious loss of money.

Then, there is also this part that will measure your ability to work with others. While the job of an electrician requires the individual skill of the person, the way he deal with other people is also a must. The exam tries to find out how a candidate will react to certain situations that demand teamwork. The ability to work with other people is a sign that he is coachable and is willing to learn from other people.

Next we have passion. If you have the skills and attitude, then you are ready to go. But sometimes, you need something more to push you forward especially when tough situations happen. Passion is what pulls you up when you do not feel like moving forward. And passion is manifested on the quality of work. Workers who have the passion stay longer on a company.

Then, we have the ability to handle alcohol intake and refuse drugs. Candidate electricians have to be very keen on making sure that their health is at its best. They go on field and face constant risk. Alcohol and drugs can impair focus and straight thoughts, so those who are found out to have been using them can potentially be terminated. Or, in the case of the candidates, not accepted.

Last on this list is the resilience to pressure. Unless you are ready to deal with high possibilities of pressure at work, then you may want to do some steps to make you more resilient. Employers can be demanding. And when they say they want the job done today, you have to try your best to deliver it. The inability to deal pressures can be detrimental to your future performance at work and even to your health.

Be aware of your weakness. Accept it and evaluate whether or not is can impact your work later on. PSI is a great help to have a closer look at it.
