Bank Telling & The Do's And Don'ts, From Robert Jain

By Michael Robert Peterson

If you're able to communicate with people and possess a strong understanding of financial matters, bank telling might be the job for you. This is a profitable place of employment, especially when you work at it for years, since there is growth to be made. With that said, newbies should understand the ropes before they dive headfirst into this particular job. To make matters easier for said individuals, here are the biggest do's & don'ts to know.

DO solve your work quickly. For those who do not know - and I am sure that Robert Jain can attest - immediacy is essential for any bank teller. Knowing how to process equations at a moment's notice is essential. The same can be said about the ability to communicate with others, which makes sense when you think about how varied different personalities are. Immediacy is all but necessary in the field known as bank telling.

DON'T think that job opportunities are limited. What you should also know about being a bank teller is that different opportunities exist for different schedules. Maybe you're a full-time college student who's looking for work. It's fortunate, then, that many banks offer part-time jobs that will help you make money on the side. Provided you're willing to work hard, these opportunities will be nothing short of striking for you.

DO focus on your attire. Clothes make the man, or so they say. In the working world, this is especially true, meaning that you should look for your best as a bank teller. Bob Jain, as well as other authorities on finance, understand the importance of formal apparel on the job. By dressing in a suit, you showcase an air of professionalism you might have lacked otherwise. As a result, you should know that the right clothes matter on the job.

DON'T think that you can't grow in your field. As a bank teller, it's entirely possible to move up the ranks and see greater success. In fact, it wouldn't be abnormal to become a lead teller at your job, which will entail more responsibility on your end. However, it will be accompanied by better pay, which will encourage you to work even harder. To see success in the field, you must be willing to look into the future, progressing each step of the way.
