A simple white base is all you require. The base can sometimes be too expensive yet it only needs to be white and will be covered by other items. The common practice is to use mold made of Styrofoam to give it a realistic appeal. However, such options as a clean canvas will still work or the use of an ordinary table cloth. Such improvisation will serve the purpose and in the process save you a lot.

Avoid working with a flat platform. Villages are usually hilly or feature an uneven terrain. With different levels, you have more room for creativity as well as innovating with colors and shadows to give the feeling of reality. You only need to place objects like boxes below the canvas. Some of these boxes can be what the houses and images on your village were packed in. Such raising gives you a third dimension that is magical.

There are numerous improvised trains you can use for your display. There is the traditional train that spews fake smoke throughout the village. However, it will be expensive since it is a seasonal decoration. Use trains made for other occasions. They will still do the trick by making the engine sound. It is the idea that matters.

Lighting should be simplified. It does not have to feature the multiple colors and cords that malls and institutions use. Such purchases will prove expensive for you. Use a single thread that is strategically placed on different sections of your presentation. You can use objects like the house and your canvas background to achieve desired coloration.

There is magic when you add a water feature. Buying a real water fall will only push your budget up. Use ordinary pipes that are cut into half and laid with a white paper. Enhance their watery appearance using light. A single water feature is enough instead of create a complex set of streams that make the display crowded. Jesus was not born in a swamp.

Embrace recycling and being innovative in your decoration. There are items you decorated with last year that could still be useful. This is one of the ways of cutting down on cost while gradually improving on the quality of your display. Other than buy new items every year, you will add on to what you have already acquired. You need to be good at preservation.

Minimalist decoration is an excellent tactic you can use to create a magnificent display. Do not seek to add a lot of items because it will be a crowded place. This will also make it difficult for your lighting to be effective. Be modest yet creative with the items that are displayed and the results will be magical.
